Consisting of a studio, workshop and gallery, Deakin’s A+B spaces are well-equipped to support students, researchers and academics experiment with materials and processes, and exhibit their work to the wider Deakin community.
Spread across our Geelong Waterfront Campus, the A+B spaces are specially designed to provide you with the facilities you need to succeed within your architecture course or research project.
The A+B Studio is a 1050 square-metre space, 12.3 metres high and uninterrupted by posts, partitions or ceiling. The entire space is open and flexible to accommodate your creative projects.
Large enough for groups of 30 at a time, our A+B Workshop encourages students, academics and researchers to experiment with a range of innovative technology, materials and processes.
Overlooking Geelong's Corio Bay with amazing uninterrupted views, the A+B Gallery is a modern open-plan space providing students, staff and researchers the perfect area to exhibit their work, teach and meet for social gatherings.
The A+B Gallery hosts an annual student exhibition – a great opportunity to celebrate our student's work and give them exposure. One exhibition included an ambitious plan for the future of Geelong Railway Station, a re-imagined Cunningham Pier, Barwon River foreshore and Phoenix Wool Scouring Works.
You'll work collaboratively in the A+B Studio, with all year levels using the space. You’ll attend each other's presentations and provide feedback and support. Construction management students also use the space to take drawing classes and discuss designs with architecture students. You can use hand tools and cutting implements to construct your architectural models at workstations.
Produce models using a wide range of equipment including computer-controlled laser and 3D printers. We have two full-time technicians – they’ll help you use laser cutters and CNC routers, as well as a range of 3D printers including Makerbots, Fortus 250 MC, German RepRap X500 and a Form 3 laser resin printer.
You’ll be provided with access to a full selection of hand tools, battery and electric tools, and timber machining facilities, welding facilities including Mig, Tig and Arc welding and selected metal working tools including sheet metal guillotine and folder. Hand tools and materials are also available for purchase.
When you study architecture at Deakin you get real-world experience via project-oriented design-based learning. You’ll undertake team-based projects and develop solutions to current industry needs, so you can hit the ground running when you graduate.
Deakin offers study and research options across a range of bachelor, masters and higher degree by research courses in architecture and construction management. Postgraduate students can deepen their knowledge through specialised study, while graduate researchers can expand their expertise in a chosen topic.
